“You know, sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just literally 20 seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it.”― Benjamin Mee
At the Witbank Airfield (Johannesburg), when the aircraft took off, all I kept looking at was the view outside the windows & the Altimeter on my instructor’s wrist.
1000 -> 4000 -> 7000 -> 9000 & the cold air whooshed in as the aircraft door was opened at 10000 ft.
At the door, I kept my eyes wide open (I didn’t want to miss any spectacle for even a single second)!
The next moment, that adrenaline rush, I and my tandem instructor just jumped! My first tandem skydive from 10000 ft. AGL!
And then there was a free fall for 35 seconds, wherein at a moment I could see the vast sky and the next moment the earth below. Woaah!!!
And all of a sudden I just zoomed up towards the blue above when the parachute was deployed. With the 10 minute canopy ride that followed, I now know what it is to taste the sky!
Indeed, a quintessential expression of freedom!
